It is with profound sadness, yet with grateful hearts, that we remember Mr. Dervan Malcolm, a noted Jamaican and proud son of Calabar High School, who served with distinction as Head Boy.
We are saddened by his passing. Nevertheless, when we think of Dervan, we cannot help but smile as we remember his interactions on the campus and the quiet, positive presence he brought to the school community.
Dervan was a man of promise, character and leadership whose contribution extended beyond the walls of Calabar. His time at the school reflected many of the qualities we hold dear: discipline, service, excellence and a commitment to making a meaningful difference.
As a former Head Boy, he became part of the rich legacy of student leadership at Calabar, and his name will forever remain a part of that history.
Mr. Malcolm was a quiet yet steady presence on the campus. He was always willing to interact with students and support the work of the school. It was not uncommon to see him stepping in to assist, even manning a class in the absence of a teacher. In his own quiet way, he continued to give back to the institution that had helped shape him.
His passing is a tremendous loss to his family, friends, the Calabar community and the wider Jamaican nation. We extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones and to all who mourn his passing.
May his memory continue to bring smiles to our faces, may his contributions never be forgotten, and may his legacy of service and leadership live on.

In 1989, Dr. Prendergast was named the director of research at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where he made transformative contributions to the institution’s scientific and clinical mission. His leadership was further cemented when he joined Mayo’s highest administrative committees, the Board of Governors and the Mayo Foundation’s board of trustees in 1990, roles he served in continuously until 2009.

Dr. Prendergast was awarded honorary doctorates from Purdue University and the University of the West Indies, acknowledging his profound impact on medical education. He was also recognized with Distinguished Alumni awards from the University of the West Indies and the University of Minnesota. His most recent accolade in 2019, the Mayo Clinic Distinguished Alumni award.
