David Miller is a proud member of the Class of 1984, who believes that his experiences at Calabar High School has shaped his character and personality and has made him into the strong, yet compassionate leader that he is.
David has been President of the Calabar Old Boys Association (COBA) since August 2015, who served as Secretary since August 2009. He feels strongly that were he to relive his teenage years, he would choose to attend no other high school as the brotherhood culture of Calabar, the tenacity to keep trying, and the will to succeed are but a few of the invaluable characteristics that is embedded in him and which has benefitted him in his adult life. It is therefore important to him, that COBA does its part in ensuring that these and other characteristics that are a part of the Calabar culture, are instilled in all students and are passed from generation to generation.
In his professional life, David is the Executive Director of the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) where his work includes local, regional and international discussions on the area of competition law and policy as well as project management. He has served as Trustee to the Pension Plans of two organizations, and Chairman of finance for the Local Organizing Committee of CARIFTA 2011.
COBA is located on the School’s campus: 61 Red Hills Road, Kingston 20.
COBA Chapters: Atlanta, Canada, Florida, New York, United Kingdom, and Washington DC.
COBA Special Interest Groups: The Lion's Den, LOC99, The Rabalac Fan Club, Sons of Herb, Sons of Rabalac, Class of 79, Class of 81, and Class of 84.
COBA has several initiatives targeted at each of the seven areas of the School’s Strategic Plan. Academic and teacher development is at the forefront of COBA; and COBA drives a strong mentorship programme targeted at all boys and academic growth through regular interface the school’s leadership and senior teachers.
COBA hosts skills-building workshops and has an incentive programme for teachers.
COBA is at the focal point of the school’s infrastructural developments. The Sports Complex, modernised Information and Communication Technology (ICT) foundation, and School Entrance are recent additions. Another phase for the ICT infrastructure, a Robotics Lab, and a Sick Bay are in the planning stage.
COBA serves as an information and communication hub for the Calabar community. It is closely aligned with the school’s management, and obtains information from the school on its strategic plan, activities, needs, wants and initiatives. Initiatives and activities are shared with all stakeholders through COBA’s information network.
